Friday 10th May – Day 293
Very hot again so we decide to crank it early doors. We set off and quickly moor at the services and we got chatting ((of course you did. Those poor people trying to enjoy some peace and quiet on a canalside walk!)) to someone who looked at the boat when it was for sale in 2018! Anyway, he bought another boat which is a good thing, else we probably wouldn’t have ended up owning The Plot as he still has his! Funny how things work out.
Services done which took a while as the water point was slow to fill up the tank and then it was onto a flight of locks where there were a couple of volunteers helping, so it was very pleasant doing this flight of 7 with them helping and having a good old chat.
Coming out of the final lock it was a four mile stretch of cruising and then we managed to find a nice spot to moor. This Grand Union is certainly living up to it’s name – it’s fabulous. What a beautiful canal and so much to see. I can see one day we will have to come back and explore all these places we have cruised past and not had time to stop at. I think you could easily do a whole year just on this canal to explore it properly.
We carried on and did another 7 locks before mooring up for the night at Berkhamsted. We were going to crank it to Hemel Hempstead but the heat has beaten us. At every lock the sun was beating down and physically it takes it out of you ((Especially with your white Yorkshire body Peachy!))
A wonderful cruise but day well and truly done. Until tomorrow. x
Cruising: 6 miles / 14 lock
Estimate: London bound totals: cruising miles 137/198 Locks: 148/174 Tunnels: 6 Swing Bridge: 2
