June already! This month is marching on and it will soon be my birthday ((OH such joy. Not as if you’ve not already started the ‘month to infinity’ celebration period. You’re on holiday as you type!)) Actually, I think you will find this is called a Woliday ((I know something that rhymes with that)) I’m currently in Norfolk with my other half’s parents who kindly asked us to join them. In between exploring, I’m still working ((if I could cough)) on my freelance work – that’s the benefit of being able to work from anywhere.
We hired a boat on the broads for a few hours and it was like stepping back in time to when we hired our first ever boat, which ultimately led to four year later and being the proud owners of The Plot. We are still loving our narrowboat life.
I’m blown away by how well my Kickstarter campaign to publish my thriller, Killer’s List has started. As of today, my campaign is 1/3 funded which is amazing. To give an idea of context and costs this campaign will help with.
You can have a free ISBN from Amazon but to have more control over a book there is an official company you buy an ISBN from. It’s either one for £93 or ten for £174 and as I need one for each publication I produce, so ebook/paperback/hardback they each need a unique identifier. This means the costs will cover books 1,2 and 3 in the series.
If you follow me on social media you will have seen all the ranting about the printer ((That was hilarious. Do more of those)) as I needed to print Killer’s List to send to my friend who edits my books as she prefers a printed copy. I also prefer doing the first edit on paper. It’s strange how you read and edit a book differently on paper. On the next edit I will use Word and the track changes feature. Anyway, after threatening it with a hammer, it finally printed and it’s now in the hands of the postie.
I’m off on my adventures the day after returning from Norfolk as my friend promised to pay for a business retreat in Cornwall if I signed up to LinkedIn. I’ve been putting this off for years but now is the time. This is mainly for my freelance work as it will help me build connections across the publishing world and keep up to date with what our authors are doing. ((I have no words! No words Peachy, other than is your friend for sale?)) I know, I am very lucky. We will be working… ((Yeah yeah!)) as my friend is finally launching her business which she has been putting off – if she is reading this… you are launching it in Cornwall. If I have to sign up to LinkedIn then you’re launching your business.
I have around a 7 hour train journey down south, so I will be using that time effectively to update social media ((I hope the internet doesn’t work)) I also have two client’s books to read.
Just a final point on the Kickstarter before I go. ((If you must)) I have mentioned before, but the way Kickstarter works is that if the £1,500 goal isn’t reached, then the project isn’t funded and therefore I don’t receive the money and you don’t get charged ((hurrah, I can save my money for more important things)) but it will mean that the publication of Killer’s List might be delayed as I work to pay for it.
Don’t forget, as well as choosing an eBook, paperback or hardback you can also have your name added to the Kill List or Acknowledgement list which will be printed in the book as another way of saying thank you for your support. My Kickstarter campaign finishes on 25th June.
